The movement for climate justice make its voice heard on the eve of COP 21!

This weekend, civil society expressed itself in all its diversity to kick off two weeks of mobilizations for climate justice.

Around the world:

In Melbourne, Beirut, Kyoto, Cairo, Tuvalu, Johannesburg, London, Oslo, Berlin, Quezon City, Jakarta and many other cities around the world, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets this weekend to make their demands for climate justice heard, loudly and clearly. In all, more than 2,300 events initiated by citizens were held or are still ongoing, in 170 countries.

 In Paris:

10,000 people joined hands and formed a human chain for a climate of peace, between metro stations Oberkampf and Nation. A great clamour was also heard in the streets of the capital. This alternative mobilization to the big march that had been initially scheduled was peaceful and determined. The human chain began at 11:30 am and broke up peacefully after 12:45.

Our shoes marched for us: At the Place de la République this morning, 22,000 pairs of shoes symbolized the participants in the march for the climate that had been planned for Paris.

Online, 30,000 people have already signed up to march for those who could not march for the climate in Paris, through the site www.march4me.org.

 Throughout France:

Human chains formed over the weekend, notably in Nantes, Rennes, Brest, Auch, Caen, Chambéry, Marseille, Montpellier, La Rochelle, and Lyon.  In other cities, such as Toulouse, Lille, Bordeaux, and Limoges, citizen power expressed itself in other forms,…
