The people wrote the next chapter of the climate movement through direct action.

We took to the streets of Paris in our tens of thousands to reaffirm our will and our determination to strengthen the broad climate change movement that the planet and its people need. Climate change is one of the greatest challenges that humanity faces. We were able to work together, in France and internationally, for the success of our actions. Thank you to everyone!

The day’s actions concluded with a speech by the Coalition (read the Coalition’s declaration).

CLIMATE JUSTICE FOR PEACE

At about 9:30 a.m., many small teams took to the streets of Paris to spell out the message “Climate Justice for Peace” using geolocalization.

Result:  Thanks to the determination of 3,000 participants across 1,152 geolocalized points, the message #ClimateJusticePeace was proclaimed loud and clear. Photos

RED LINES ACTION

More than 15,000 people gathered along the Avenue de la Grande Armee between La Defense and the Arc de Triomphe to denounce climate crimes.

Participants in this action began with a minute of silence to honor the victims of climate change. Activists unfurled rolls of red cloth that stretched from the Arc de Triomphe to the end of the Avenue to symbolize the “red lines” that must not be crossed if the planet is to remain liveable.

Following after the representatives of indigenous communities and the populations most affected by climate change, who led the procession, participants marched and unrolled a 105m-long banner reading “We won’t stop here. It’s up to us to keep fossil fuels in the ground”.

CHAMP DE MARS AT 2PM

More than 20,000 people gathered on Saturday, December 12th at the Champs-de-Mars to denounce the failure of COP21 to prevent the crossing of the 2C warming threshold, and to declare a climate state of emergency. Read Alternatiba’s illustrated article (french)

An agreement that does not the job

The agreement was adopted last Saturday at around 7:30 p.m. It is not sufficient to meet the challenge of climate change.

Here are reactions from some members of the Coalition:

 Réseau Action Climat’s Response

ATTAC’s Response

Greenpeace’s Response

Action contre la Faim’s Response

These reactions strengthen our determination: our actions will not end with COP21. On the contrary, they will continue to develop and multiply in the coming months and years.

If we do not act, no one will!
